We’re using proven gasification technology as a mobile solution to eliminate 15 tons of plastic per day from our beaches, rivers, and coastal communities. This isn’t a moonshot - it’s using a hazardous waste elimination technology developed 25 years ago to clean up the mess choking our oceans.

 

THERE ARE MORE THAN 165 MILLION TONS OF PLASTIC IN OUR OCEAN, AND A DUMP TRUCK’S WORTH ADDED EVERY MINUTE.

The problem can feel overwhelming, but there are key areas where we can quickly make a difference. SeaChange Ocean Solutions ships will travel to the places where inflow is worst to stop plastic from getting into the ocean and to eliminate it before it turns into the microplastic working its way up the food chain to us.

HERE’S HOW WE MAKE IT HAPPEN.

SeaChange Ocean Solutions will partner with existing cleanup organizations and regional governments, and travel to plastic pollution collection points.

We then process 15 tons of plastic per day on our ship, eliminating the carbon footprint of shipping it around in a broken recycling system and the risk of having it end up back in the environment.

The first SeaChange Ocean Solutions ship will serve as a mobile response unit, traveling to hot spots where we can have the greatest impact on plastic pollution in sensitive environments and demonstrate a better way for the world to deal with waste.

The mobile system fits in five standard shipping containers so it can be moved to remote locations by ship, rail, truck, or airfreight carrier. A hub-and-spoke model will site mobile systems on land in centralized areas that can handle regional plastic.

The first SeaChange Ocean Solutions mission is planned to take place in Indonesia.

There’s currently 0.5 - 1.4 million tons of plastic entering the ocean from Indonesia’s rivers and coastal areas annually. That plastic waste is directly impacting a very sensitive and bio-diverse ecosystem that’s home to 76% of coral species and vast mangrove forests.

 Our team is identifying a network of NGOs, individuals, and governments working to collect ocean plastics we can process on site. After defining the most efficient plan to hit as many collection sites as possible, we’ll travel to the hotspots where ecosystems and livelihoods are being destroyed by ocean pollution.

 
 
 

WHAT’S NEXT?

There is no single silver bullet to address the rapidly-growing ocean plastics problem. This is an all-hands-on-deck effort.

SeaChange Ocean Solutions supports global efforts to drastically reduce the amount of single-use plastic consumed. But, we also see a clear and imminent need to permanently remove existing plastic choking our rivers, oceans, and shores from the waste stream. 

After our ships prove InEnTeC’s plasma gasification technology’s effectiveness as an end game for ocean plastics, SeaChange Ocean Solutions will focus on siting mobile units in plastic pollution hotspots around the world.
